Rad Dad Atlas

The fine print

Disclaimers, terms & privacy

Drafted plainly, reviewed by an actual Kentucky lawyer (the author — awkward, but efficient). Last updated September 2026.

Assumption of risk — read this one out loud

This website describes real-world outdoor and roadside activities — hiking, wading, swimming holes, cliffs, caves, ferries, backroads, festivals, and at least one active railroad trestle that you must never set foot on. All of these carry inherent risks, including serious injury or death. Conditions change constantly: water rises, trails wash out, rocks fall, hours change, businesses close, ferries dock, festivals cancel. You — the adult — are solely responsible for evaluating conditions, supervising children at all times, and deciding what is safe for your own family. Nothing here is a promise that any place is safe, open, legal to visit, or suitable for your crew on the day you go. By using this site you accept these risks and agree that the site's author, contributors, and the Rad Dads group have no liability for anything that happens on your adventures. Check official sources (park pages, road reports, weather) before you drive, and when in doubt, don't.

Specific standing warnings, repeated because they matter: never swim at the base of Cumberland Falls; never enter the Pope Lick trestle or any railroad property; unfenced cliff edges in the Red River Gorge and elsewhere are exactly as dangerous as they look; swimming holes demand an adult reading the water first, feet-first entry, and zero jumping or diving.

Not affiliated, not sponsored, not advice

This is a personal, noncommercial hobby site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any business, park, festival, town, dog, or government agency mentioned. All trademarks belong to their owners. The "sponsor" cards are obvious jokes: unpaid, unsolicited, and (with two lawyerly exceptions and one moonbow) unaware of us. Nothing on this site is legal, medical, or safety advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by reading a road-trip website, no matter how many lawyers appear in the fake ads.

Terms of use, briefly

Content is for personal, family, and educational use. Share links freely; don't scrape, republish wholesale, or pass the work off as your own. External links (including Google Maps) go to sites we don't control and aren't responsible for. Information is provided "as is," with no warranties of accuracy or fitness; we verify in good faith (see the Truth Policy) and fix errors when told. These terms and any disputes are governed by Kentucky law. If you use this site, you agree to all of the above — and to wave at porches on gravel roads, which is not legally enforceable but should be.

Privacy, in one honest paragraph

No accounts, no sign-ups, no ads, no selling anything. Your checklist progress, hearts, and home base are stored in your own browser's local storage and never leave your device; clearing your browser data erases them. We use Cloudflare's privacy-respecting aggregate analytics (page counts, not people) to see if anyone reads this. If you email a field report, your message goes to a plain old inbox (brad@clarkharris.com); we publish only what you okay, first names and hometowns at most, never kids' names. That's the whole policy. If a Kentucky lawyer can keep a privacy policy to one paragraph, everyone can.
