Old US 60 east the lazy way → Olive Hill → KY 182 → Carter Caves State Resort Park → home (interstate permitted for the sleepy return)

Cascade Cave & X Cave
Two guided classics — one hiding an underground waterfall, one shaped exactly like its name. A steady cave-cool all year; jackets in July feel like cheating.
The bridge you drive over
The park road crosses directly on top of a natural bridge — bag the arch from the driver's seat, then walk under to make it official.
Smoky Bridge & Box Canyon
The biggest span in the park anchors a short, shady canyon trail of ferns and swallows.
If the day runs long: The park's winter Crawlathon (typically late January) lets brave families squirm through wild caves by headlamp.
